How To (Politely) Tell A Vendor You're Not Choosing Them
Breaking up is hard to do, but we've all been there. Read on for some helpful breakup tips.
We've all had a job interview where we've been told they are pursuing other candidates right? As vendors we know that stinging feeling all too well.. and sometimes.. we don't. Because you don't tell us.
You've probably heard of the term "ghosting" - it's when you're having a conversation with someone and they just disappear. They stop responding. You thought things were going well and then you're left wondering if it's something you said?
Vendors have thick skins. We know we're not the right fit for everyone who reaches out to us. If you find yourself in the sticky situation of having to "break up" with a potential vendor just let them know you won't be moving forward with a simple "I'm sorry, but we've decided to go in another direction".
A lot of vendors are small business owners, especially in the wedding industry. Simply put, we remember you. We remember you contacted us and we were so happy you did! We remember having a conversation with you and we remember that you never got back to us and then we're left wondering was it something we said?
You might get asked for feedback on what informed your decision but you don't have to give it. If you do, just be honest and upfront.
Whether it's by phone or over email all that matters is that you communicate. We promise we won't be mad!
